Overview

Burnam's Pub House, located at 366 Pleasant St in Ashland, Massachusetts, offers a genuine bar and grill experience steeped in history and charm. This independent establishment is a rare find in today's dining landscape, embodying a classic, old-school atmosphere that appeals to patrons seeking a warm, nostalgic setting. With bar seating only, it invites guests into an intimate space where the focus is firmly on the food, drink, and camaraderie at the counter.

The culinary highlights at Burnam's reflect timeless comfort with a refined touch. The French Onion Soup stands out for its rich, savory broth and perfectly melted cheese, capturing the essence of a traditional recipe executed flawlessly. Steaks are central to the menu, with options like the New York Strip and Rib-eye cooked just right, often accompanied by earthy mushrooms and crisp green beans that complement the hearty mains. Pork ribs and stuffed shells round out a selection that balances robust flavors with homestyle familiarity.

Customers frequently praise the authenticity of the experience here. Jonathan Alves appreciates the blend of history and quality, calling it a “gem,” while Father Chris Letizia fondly recalls returning after years, finding the Rib-eye and French Onion Soup to be as memorable as ever. The open kitchen adds a layer of transparency and connection, allowing diners to watch their meals prepared with care.

Burnam’s caters primarily to adults, as the bar-only seating underscores its focus on an adult social scene, one that steers away from family-style dining to create a space for enjoying well-crafted cocktails alongside great food. Keith Saravo’s comparison to a speakeasy highlights the intimate, unique vibe—a place where independent spirit and culinary craftsmanship resist the uniformity of chain restaurants.

Overall, Burnam's Pub House is a hidden treasure for those in or passing through Ashland looking for a genuine bar dining experience. Its combination of perfectly cooked steaks, savory soups, and a cozy, history-laden setting makes it a standout destination. Steven Yoo’s remark on the welcoming owners and excellent service encapsulates the personal touch that defines Burnam’s—making it a spot worth seeking out.

This old family business is a gem! Used to come here all the time growing up with my family. I came back after many years, and it was just how I remembered. Rib-eye and French Onion soup was the best! You can see the food being prepared right in front of you. Bar only-not kid recommend.

Old school in the best possible way! A classic! They don’t make them like this anymore. Not cheap, but that’s what you get for Independent restaurants not the frozen food chains. Think speakeasy… only bar seats.

For years I drove by this place, always curious. Finally decided to stop in for dinner. It's a very warm and cozy place and the owners are really welcoming. Bar seating only. Ordered French onion soup and the NY sirloin with mushrooms. Excellent food and excellent service. Sorry I never made it here sooner.

Rustic, casual, homey and good. What they do , they do very well. Do not expect an elegant atmosphere .. who cares? the food is fantastic! The drinks are also very generous. Service with a smile. Charlie our waiter was wonderful. The chef doesn’t miss a trick . A tiny kitchen produces magic. The Steak . Get it.

Love the food and atmosphere, but you need to get there early because it's only bar service and they fill up quickly. Their menu is limited but what they have is delicious. Hours are Monday - Friday from 4p-9p.
